Self portrait, Rock Creek Park, Washington, D.C., May 2022. The texture and color of the cyanotype looks similar to a Shanku (衫褲), an everyday outfit worn by the Hakka ethnic group in China of which Shuran Huang proudly belongs. Worn by men and women of all ages, a Shanku is usually blue and black, with little ornamentation.

"These double-exposed self portraits convey the meaning of my name," writes Shuran Huang. "The leaf stem follows my body which visually represents being in harmony with nature."
